Occupy Wall Street?
Wednesday, October 19th, 2011So this whole thing on the news about Occupy Wall Street has got me wondering. What if we occupied the church? It is my limited understanding that Occupy Wall Street simply wants to change the way the government operates and the way the “rich” people spend their money. I don’t know enough about them to say whether I agree or not but I do know enough to suggest that they are willing to stand up for what they believe and push for change.
What if the church did that? What if we dug in, stood up, and decided that until change happened we were not going to take it any more. That the status quo that keeps some people on top and others on the bottom wasn’t good enough anymore.
What would that look like, would there be violence? Would there be marches? Would their be change?
I don’t know, but maybe it is possible to create change, if we really want it and are willing to work for it.
Or maybe it will fail? Maybe nothing will change, maybe nothing will happen. But at least we tried? And that is the point right? To at least try?
