A review of an Insurrection.

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011

I spent some time reading this book.  I took my time so that I could properly digest what Peter Rollins was saying.  Well, I just finished it and I am left with two contradicting and yet complimentary thoughts.  I have read everything Rollins has written and this is by far his best work.

  1. Wow! An amazing book that questioned my beliefs and didn’t let up until I had answer.
  2. Now what? What do I do? How do I take what I have learned and make this world better?

Love Wins: A review by a guy who actually read the book

Friday, April 8th, 2011

So, I read this book.  My Grandmother always told me “Never judge a book by its cover or what other people say about it.”  As a result I went and bought my own copy and finished it within a few days.

Please note, I am a large fan of Rob Bell.  My sermons reflect his style, I wear the same kind of glasses (when not wearing my contacts) I have read everything he has written and I went to his Preaching conference in 2009.  I have studied more about his Theology than any other author.  I don’t agree with all of it, but I have never found a theologian where I agree with everything they say.  That being said I liked the book but…

Review: Outlive your life by Max Lucado

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

Last night at 1am I finished reading Max Lucado’s newest book Outlive Your Life.  It was an easy read, compared to the books I am supposed to read for seminary this book was a breeze.  Each chapter is about 10 pages and can be finished in less than twenty minutes.  If you read one chapter per day you will finish in about two weeks, which is what I did.

One of the things I liked the most was that it is a book about action, not about being a better person or loving others more (certainly those are parts of the book) but for the most part it is about getting up off the couch and actually doing something.

I found the use of stories and the interpretations of scripture events to be very helpful in making the stories apply to me.

Also, the question in the back are not unusual to Lucado’s books but they are helpful and will make this a good book for a small group study.

This review is free and unsolicited.  I bought the book with my own money and read it at my own pace with no requirement to post any kind of review.  Enjoy your free advice knowing that you got your money’s worth from it.

Common English Bible Review

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

A few months back I gave my opinion on a section of scripture for a new Bible translation.  As a result the company offered to give me a free copy.  I finally got the Common English Bible.

Book Review: The Year of Living Like Jesus

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

I am finishing up a book titled “The Year of Living Like Jesus,” by Ed Dobson.  This book was very good.  I assumed it would be a book about giving to the poor and walking everywhere. That idea quickly changed as I read the book. (more…)
