Ministry creates emotions

September 30, 2011

Here I am at my church and I have been changing a few things and I have some new ideas for the future.  A pastor I kn
However, the alternative is to make changes immediately.  My vow to every church was that I would not change anything unless it needed to be changed because it was unbiblical or became a hindrance to people worshipping.ow once told me to wait 6 months before changing anything.  I find that idea incredibly unbiblical and a perfect way to kill a church.

So I have been changing a few things in the few weeks I have been here and it has created some emotions.  Some good and some bad.

But isn’t that the case with ministry no matter when it is or what it is?

When you do ministry, especially ministry that brings the gospel to more people, emotions will always come bubbling up.

Sometimes they have nothing to do with the ministry or person but have a background we don’t get to see.  But sometimes emotions come out because people are touched by God through the ministry and it excites them or it scares them.

And that becomes the difference.  When God moves in your ministry people will react.  The one thing you cannot do in the presence of God is leave unchanged.

So are people reacting positively because they feel God’s presence or because of something else?  Are people reacting negatively because they feel God’s presence or because of something else?

I don’t have an answer but I think back to Gamaliel in the book of Acts.  If what you are doing is from God then you will be fine.  but if it isn’t from God it will fail.

People’s reactions don’t always matter.  What matters is whether or not you have been called by God.  If you have then you will get both negative and positive reactions and you will still succeed.  If you haven’t been called then you will still get good and bad comments and you will fail.  So you cannot determine your call based on other people’s emotions but you can base it on your success.

So then, what is it going to be? Are you going to stand on what God has called you or are you going to rise and fall with other people’s emotional outbursts?
