Seminary missed a few things.

As a recent seminary graduate I can say I have learned all sorts of things.  I had a great time and over the past four years

I have learned more information than I thought existed about Jesus/Bible/Theology.

I can exegete a Bible passage like no one else I know.  I can translate the Hebrew and quote Wesley, Barth, Calvin, Kant, and all kinds of theologians.  I can tell you communion from the point of view of five different denominations and I can even tell you why main line churches are dying in Germany.

But even as awesome as my education is there are a few things that seminary did not teach me.

There are so many things that seminary did not teach me that I have come up with a method to help me.  Maybe it will help you.

  1. Tell Others.  If you live life in a bubble you will have no one to help you when you don’t know what to do.
  2. Don’t sugar coat your ignorance.  Admit that you have no clue what you are doing,  more people will be willing to help.
  3. Follow up.  When you have figured out what to do, follow up to see what the results were.

I know I won’t always know what to do but I know that if I am in contact with others I can get the help I need.  The same goes for you.
