Baptized my laptop

July 15, 2011

The other morning my day started off very poorly.  I managed to spill an entire glass of water on my Macbook Pro. I immediately shut it off and dried it off.  It appeared perfectly fine.  I let it air dry for a little while and turned it back on.  It turned on fine with no problems, for a few minutes.

After about five minutes the screen started to turn black.  I immediately grabbed my external hard drive and began backing up my computer but it was to no avail, the screen went black.

I tried to turn it on but nothing worked. It was a giant, expensive, aluminum paper weight.

I got out my iPad and looked online.  Nothing but horror stories.

Except for one, it said: Turn it upside, screen open, wait, and pray.

So I did that and with my laptop hanging over my desk I waited and prayed.

I prayed a lot because it had been a few months since I backed up my laptop.

I also prayed that it would be okay because my, now deceased, grandfather paid for it and it would have been one more thing that he gave me that is now gone.

I waited about 6 hours and turned on my computer, it made a noise but nothing on the screen.  I got it to shut off again and prayed more.  I went home and decided to hook up an external monitor to see if I could at least access the computer without the screen.  The whole thing turned on with no problem and it actually works better than it did before.

This makes no sense, it shouldn’t have worked.

I can only blame it on a miracle from Jesus (or dumb luck)

However, if it was a miracle from Jesus then it brings up all sorts of theological questions.  Why would Jesus save my laptop when people die from malaria every 45 seconds?  Why would my information be saved when 1500 children were abused during the time the Casey Anthony trial was on?  Why would God care about me when there are people who are so much worse?

I don’t know if Jesus resurrected my laptop but what I know is that my laptop makes no sense and neither does the way Jesus works in this world.
