Potty Training under stress
We are currently trying to potty train our son. However, we are also moving. Potty training is difficult to begin with and to add the stress of moving on top of it makes it even harder. My son was almost entirely potty trained before we started moving and now he has having more accidents. Everything we have read said that his backsliding into accidents is because of the stress of moving. Suddenly his house is filled with boxes and everything is in chaos. That made me wonder how we respond to chaos? Typically there are 3 ways we respond to chaos, and they are all related to the ways children respond to potty training.
- We hold it all in. This is when we refuse to admit we are stressed. Doing this can lead to health issues and the eventual exploding of everything we have been holding in.
- We let it all out. This is the opposite of number 1 it is when we simply make sure everyone knows we are stressed.
- We can’t figure out what to do. Since we are sure what to do with these new feelings and stress we become a nervous wreck. this can be a combination of both 1 and 2 or can create all new issues that we have never felt before.
What do we do in the midst of chaos and stress? How do we respond? How did Jesus respond?
Jesus would retreat and be alone. In the book of Matthew every time Jesus was under stress he would retreat by himself and spend time along in prayer with God. Does that work better? It will get you crucified but it will keep your strength up and will be a healthy way to process the stress and chaos that is happening.
What are your thoughts? Any Potty Training tips?
