Hold Me Daddy!

On Friday I got home from Germany to a house full of sick people.  By Monday we rushed my son to the hospital, he wasn’t breathing well.  We sat in the ER of Pittsburgh Children’s hospital for what seemed like hours.  The people were wonderful and took great care of my son.  Once they gave him a breathing treatment he began to pick up in activity.  However, all would do was crawl up into our lap and say “hold me.”

My son simply wanted someone to hold him.  Of course I did exactly what any decent loving father would do and I held my son.  I help him tight and wouldn’t let him go.  After all his screaming while they poked and prodded him I just held him.  I let him cry and reminded him that I was there.

This brings to mind evangelism, missions, pastoral care, and what it means to be in relationship with Jesus.

Maybe, the best evangelism is introducing people to the God who holds them in the midst of tragedy?

Maybe, the best missions is about proclaiming that there is a God who wants to hold you in the same arms that hold the whole universe?

Maybe, the best pastoral care is about remind people that God is near and will hold you tight no matter what.

Maybe, being in relationship with Jesus isn’t about a prayer, a lifestyle, or a theology, it is about crawling into the arms of the God who made you.

So then, have you asked God to hold you?  Have events in your life left you feeling scared and out of control?  Ask God to hold you, keep you close, and never let you fall.  When you do, you will find that you are safer than you realize, more secure than you could ever be, and able to make it through anything.
