Taco Bell Faith

February 11, 2011

I love Taco Bell.  I would eat their food all the time if I lived closer to one and wasn’t afraid of dying of a heart attack at 29.  Recently, this amazing gift of God has come under scrutiny.  Now, I don’t care if they are serving me horse meat I still intend to eat there because it tastes good but this did get me thinking about my faith. The claim in the lawsuit was that there was very little and poor quality meat in the Taco Bell tacos and that Taco Bell is dressing it up and making it look better than it is.

Sometimes this is my relationship with Jesus.  Sometimes it becomes possible to dress up on the outside and look good and look like everything is perfect while on the inside is a grade F product.

We stand up and preach and yet inside there is nastiness.

Or sometimes it is the other way around where our inside is full of goodness and tasty meat combinations but detractors call out that we are a fake.  Sometimes this is the reality of leaders/pastors/youth workers.  We try our hardest to live out our faith and follow Jesus and other people come along and take us down a peg.

When either of those things happen we can take a note from Taco Bell.  Taco Bell took out ads in newspapers and even put a video on YouTube (below) but most importantly they didn’t change their food.

They kept doing what they knew was right.  They kept plugging along knowing what was right and what was wrong and time will tell if they win but either way they know the truth and they aren’t changing it, at least not yet.

  1. Interesting analogy! I’m hanging onto the “original recipe” handed down by the Jesus and his apostles. That’s where the meat is.

  2. Carter, that is an interesting illustration. If I develop this into a sermon I am going to use that. Thank you.
