The Truth is God’s
This weeks sermon continued the truth series and we talked about truth and the truth of God. You can listen to the sermon down below or subscribe on iTunes. Scripture:
All truth is God’s truth.
John 14:6 “Jesus said ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.”
We have been studying truth and what truth is, I would be remiss if we didn’t talk about truth.
First, all truth is God’s truth.
- example:
- 2+2 = 4
- If it is true it came from God.
- We see truth everywhere.
- When we see truth happening we are seeing God.
- Truth shows up in millions of ways every single day.
- The truth is, every time you see something true you see God.
- Jesus calls himself the Truth.
- Every time you see truth you see Jesus.
- That being said, John Piper says, we must also say that “All truth exists to display more of God and awaken more love for God.”
- This means that knowing truth and knowing it as God’s truth is not a virtue until it awakens desire and delight in us for the God of truth. And that desire and delight are not complete until they give rise to words or actions that display the worth of God.
- The question becomes, what do we do with the truth we have seen?
- All this truth serves to remind us that god exists and to awaken more of our love for God.
What else is true then and how does it serve to remind us of God?
- It is true that death always brings new life. If you want to stay alive you need to eat. And the healthiest food to eat used to be alive. For anything to give life it must die. This is why mountain dew is not good for you, it was never alive. This is why vegetables are good for you, they used to be alive.
- If everything that gives life had to die first then we can understand why we have to sacrifice so that our kids can have the best life?
- If everything that gives life had to die first then Jesus’ death on the cross makes us more alive than ever before.
- It is true that love will not pay your bills, but without love your bills don’t really seem to matter much anymore.
- If you have more money than anyone else but you have no one to love and no one loves you, then your money doesn’t matter. But if you have love you can be broke and still have more to give than any one else.
- It is true that cats are the evil degenerate of the dark side.
- If cats exist they are evil.
- It is true that terrorism, poverty, slavery, and oppression are wrong and must be stopped.
- If you have change in your pocket you have more money than 99% of the world and you have the ability to help stop injustice in this world.
When you give truth, say truth, or witness truth you are witnessing Jesus.
John 1:17 “The Law came from Moses but grace and truth came through Jesus.”
However, Ephesians 4:15 says we are to speak the truth in love so that all may grow up into faith in Jesus.
Yes, you can stand up and speak truth and it is true but if there is no love, Paul writes, you are nothing but a noisy gong.
Jesus says “I am the truth.” The one truth that never changes and is always true.
So then, because Jesus is truth and everything else that is true comes from God when we see truth we are seeing and experiencing Jesus.
We should never be surprised when truth is seen because this is God’s world and those things that happen are God bringing this world back to the way it was intended to be.
so then, we rejoice over truth because we are experiencing Jesus and we live in truth because we live in Christ.
Are there ways in which your life is a lie? are there things in your life that are not true? Then come to the one who is truth and is always true. find new life in the death of your savior who always forgives, always forgets and always loves.
