Wedding Rings
Recently a very good friend of mine was in a snow mobile accident. He nearly died, but thankfully God protected him. However he did end up with a few broken bones in his neck and was nearly paralyzed, but again, God protected him. Through the whole thing his wife was near him and he was surrounded by prayer from churches all over the world. Now he is home and recuperating near his kids and the rest of his family.
Shortly after all this happened he had to have surgery to put plates in his neck to keep him from becoming paralyzed. For this surgery the doctors took off his wedding ring.
While I was visiting my friend they brought him his wedding ring which his wife promptly put on his hand. I felt as though I should say a few words? He remarked that his was the first time he had the ring off since they got married and his wife said “I will always put this ring back on.”
Is that how God is? Christians are called the bride of Christ, do we sometimes forget about the ring? Do we sometimes take the ring off? Do we sometimes have the ring taken off by force?
Wedding rings are symbols of eternity and unending love. That is what marriage is supposed to be like. That is what God is like.
Too often, as Christians, our ring comes off for some reason. Usually we have pretty good excuses why we aren’t wearing it.
However, always God is right next to the hospital bed whispering in our ears “I will always put your wedding ring back on, no matter what.”
No matter what, God is with you and will always put your wedding ring back on.
