Jesus Robot, violent video games, and Glee

Recently I have been paying more attention to the world around me, the world outside of the church, the world where people have never heard of Jesus.  While paying attention to all of these things around me I realized why some people would be turned-off to Jesus and would enjoy the world they live in.One of the things I have noticed is that there is a definite spirituality among people who have never heard of Jesus and these spiritual things are ringing with Truth, love, compassion, and hope. At the same time some of the things labeled as Christian are riddle with hate, fear, and the most un-Christian ideas ever.  I recently watched the Rocky Horror Picture Show episode of Glee.  This is another episode of Glee where people who claim not to follow Jesus are actually touching closer to true Christianity than those who are Christians. In this episode the Glee students want to perform the Rocky Horror Picture Show.  At the end of the episode the Glee teacher tells the students that the movie is for those who are outsiders to have a place where they can feel together and have a place where no one is made fun of because of looks or social status.  Isn’t that supposed to be the church, not a movie with poor acting, poor editing, and questionable plot line?

Instead Christians have come up with things like the Left Behind video game.  A game in which Christians are sent out to kill the enemy “Non-Christians.”  Really? We couldn’t come up with anything more original?

If you have ever noticed why some teens/young adults look at Christianity full of knock-offs, and stupid products and then look at the world and see compassion, hope, and love and then they choose the world?  This is why, because when they choose the world they get closer to Jesus than Christian prayer robots ever could.

Perhaps Christians would be better disciples if they were more like the world and showed compassion, hope, reverence, and a connection with God?  I know we are called to not be the world but when the world shows more about Jesus than Christians which one is better?

Is this what Christians are called to do?  Where in the Bible does it say “Be in the world and worse than the world?”

Or are Christians called to be better than the world that when hope, joy, and compassion are seen outside the church that inside the church the same things would be ten-times better?

I hope it is the latter, if it isn’t Christians will continue to see declining numbers and more people going to the only place they can find love and acceptance, the world.

So then, are you a Christian that shows hate, greed, and violence for your fellow humans?  Pray, repent, and ask God to show you how to be better.

Are you a non-Christian who sees more love and joy in the world than in the church?  I’m sorry.  Please pray for the church and pray that we can show more love and more hope than anything else you have ever experienced.
