Random Prayer Requests
As a pastor I get to pray a lot, it is part of my job. People always come up to me with prayer requests, they even get posted on my Facebook account. Now I really enjoy praying, I do it a lot. However, because people ask me to pray I always hear prayer requests that I think are odd.
Maybe you have noticed this? ”Please pray for my hamster, it was sad yesterday” or “Please pray for this potato salad, I left it in the sun and I hope it is okay.” Or my personal favorite that I actually had someone ask “Please pray for my cousin, she is getting old and needs some help with her bunions. They are hurting her real bad especially before it rains.”
So what does a good pastor do with these weird requests? I don’t know, but I know what I do with them. I pray for them.
1 Peter 5:7 says we can cast our cares on Jesus because He cares for us. If there is something we care about then Jesus cares about it too, no matter how weird or odd it may be.
So then, bring your cancer, your budget, your kids and their lost pet kitten, and your cold coffee before Jesus because Jesus cares about what you care about.
