Post-it notes, Bubble Gum, Corn Flakes but not you.
Accidents happen all the time. According to my 10th grade history teacher so many inventions were created because of accidents. Things like Bubblegum, Post-it Notes, Corn Flakes, The Slinky, and lots of other stuff were all magical inventions that happened by accident. These were accidents that worked out for the better.
Sometimes like the pictures at the top of this post accidents do not always work out for the better. Sometimes car accidents happen, or street signs are misspelled. The accidents can have disastrous consequences.
Recently I heard a story of a man riding a motorcycle who clipped the edge of a rock, flipped the motorcycle and is now paralyzed for life from the neck down. These are the kinds of accidents that just make a mess of an entire life.
There is one thing that is never an accident, mistake, or unplanned event in life. You! You were not a “happy little accident.” You are not an inconvenience or mistake.
Before you ever had a day, the creator of days planned all of your days.
Before anyone could call you a mistake God has said “I love you enough to die for you.”
Before you felt out of control or felt like you cross that line the one who created that line looked at your face and said “I will cross every line to bring you back to me.”
You are not an accident, your life is not an accident, you are created by the God who formed the world by words but used hands to make humans.
You do not have to prove your worth to Jesus, You do not have to convince Jesus you are good enough, smart enough, strong enough, or worthy of “it” (whatever it could be). You already are.
All your vain, pious attempts to please Jesus aren’t working. Jesus is already pleased by you.
Jesus is already there to give you rest, remind you of your purpose, and tell you that you are loved simply because you were created.
Your purpose is not to do grand things, change the world, or fix poverty. Your single purpose is to glorify God. If you do that then maybe you will change the world but if you don’t God still thinks the world of you because he changed the world for you.
So then, may you draw yourself into the lap of God, breathe deep, and feel the secure arms of the Creator wrap around you and hear God’s voice comfort you as God reminds you that you are loved no matter what. May you stay in that place as long as you need, if you never leave all the better, may it refresh you and strengthen you but above all may it bring you closer to Jesus.
