Where Else is the Cross True? Part 4
This week church was almost cancelled. We had 22 inches of snow and the policy is if I can make it to the church we will have church. I barely made it out of my driveway but I made it. We had less people but more than I expected, we finished the series today looking at how the cross impacts our daily life and not just the end of our life. As always you can download the sermon on iTunes, by searching for Tanoma, or click hereToday we began by looking at three scriptures
- Acts 2:24
- Romans 6:8
- 2 Timothy 1:10
And we looked at how those verses related to Jesus overcoming death and our death.
We see that Jesus overcame death and now death has no victory because the worst death can do is kill you and if someone gives you everything they can do and you are still standing then you win.
The cross is God’s way of saying to satan “Is that all you got?”
Then we see, in 1 Corinthians 15:54, that the first Christians were quoting Hosea 13:14 as encouragement and as a taunt towards death. In today’s language it would be like saying “Death, I see the scoreboard and you aren’t on it.”
So the cross becomes God’s taught at death that it does not work because the worst possible thing it can do doesn’t work for Jesus.
But what if the cross is God’s way of turning it around on us.
When we come to God and cry out about our hurt and injustices to God maybe God says “is that all you got?” He doesn’t demean our minimize our hurt but maybe the cross is God’s bigger perspective?
Because if death was conquered and the grave can’t hurt us than those hurts and injustices become really kind of minor compared to what Jesus took for us.
So then the cross pushes us into what we really believe into our hurt and pain does it win? Or does the cross win?
So when we take communion we confess to God that it hurts and God agrees but God says “This is all you have and we will get through it together because death was defeated.”
