God's Wrath and God's Love Matthew 2:6
This Sunday’s sermon was great. It was the last Sunday before Christmas and except for the blizzard it went perfect. The sermon was based on the prophesy that Matthew quotes from Micah 5:2. Of course you can listen to the sermon here.
However, Matthew changes one word from Rule to Shepherd. Why would Matthew do this?
Matthew does this because in Ezekiel 34 God is so mad with the injustices in the world caused by those in power that he will come and lead his people and bind up their injuries and God will seek those who are scattered and find them on there “Cloudy days in thick darkness” (Ezekiel 34:12)
God will be the good shepherd for his people.
This is God’s wrath, his sorrow and longing poured out and he becomes the good shepherd.
Yet, John 3:16 God’s love sent Jesus as well.
So then when we have no strength to go on, Jesus is the shepherd who will carry us.
When our days are cloudy and we are in thick darkness Jesus is the one who will find us.
When this is our first Christmas with cancer, Jesus is the one who will comfort us.
When this is our first Christmas without our family Jesus is the one who will hold you.
When your sin has encompassed your entire life and there seems like you can’t get out Jesus is the savior who loved you enough to be born and to die for you.
