Your purpose in life
We all have a purpose in life, but how do we figure that out? John the Baptist knew his from the beginning but how do we decide what we should do with our life? My sermon attempted to start the discussion of that. Before I talk about the sermon I want to talk about after the sermon. While taking offering a young man, about 7 years old, wasn’t paying attention when offering went by so he made quite the disruption getting up and walking up to the front to put his offering in the plate. It was one copper penny. He dropped it in and asked “Is this enough for Jesus?” When I shook my head yes he walked away smiling. These are the moments why I love being a pastor.
Okay, the sermon.
John the Baptist had a purpose, we have a purpose too. The first thing we have to figure out is: What is our purpose. I can’t tell you what that is but I can tell you that a good way to figure it out is to ask “What is the one thing that when you do it you lose all track of time.” Join that to the scripture of making disciples and you will have a pretty good idea of what Jesus has called you to do.
Once you know your purpose you then dress like your purpose, act like your purpose, live like your purpose, and talk about your purpose.
If we deny our purpose that Jesus has called us to we become like the Pharisees who think they are saved by simply being born into the faith and not doing anything with it. John the Baptist said this is not a guarantee of salvation. The only guarantee of salvation is faith in Jesus.
The sermon was interesting and short, not sure why it was so short but I finished saying everything I had in me and it I was done so instead of adding more I just finished.

That’s my favorite kind of sermon! Heavy on the “interesting”
More definitions of “passion” or how to know what your purpose is…
That thing which you would do for free, and never feel underpaid!
or,my favorite,
What would two people standing in a grocery line next to you have to be talking about before you would be compelled to join in the conversation?
Bless God!
