Deveined Shrimp

December 30, 2009

there is a tradition in my family of eating seafood on Christmas eve.  So every year we get our seafood ready, nothing real exotic or weird, just shrimp, crab cakes, popcorn shrimp, and maybe crab legs.  This year I noticed the package of peel and eat shrimp said deveined.

Geneaologies are Boring? Matthew 1:1-17

December 27, 2009

Today was great.  We finished preaching through Matthew backwards, we started before Easter and now we talked about the Genealogies.  On the surface this Genealogy looks boring, it is simply a list of people who are related to Jesus. Or is it more than that? You can listen to it here.

First Present of Christmas *warning gross*

December 26, 2009
Tags: ,

Yesterday was Christmas.  I actually woke up first, so I came downstairs, took the dog out, and had coffee.  By 8:30 my son woke up, he is 21 months.  After I got him out of his crib I changed his diaper and it was a mess.  There was poop everywhere, that diaper was so full. [...]

Christmas Adam service

December 24, 2009

Last night we held a “Christmas Adam Service.”  I call it that because Adam came before Eve.  Holding our service on the 23rd allows the congregation (and the pastor) to spend Christmas even with their family.  For this service I didn’t really give a sermon, instead I read a kid’s book to the people.

However, Matthew changes one word from Rule to Shepherd. Why would Matthew do this?

Ministry or Mini-story?

December 16, 2009

I have the privilege (or the curse) to be both senior pastor and only paid staff member of my church.  This means I have oversight to all the ministries.  Yet at the same time, I also lead the youth ministry.  Frequently in any ministry, especially youth ministry people begin to think that their ministry is [...]

Your purpose in life

December 13, 2009

We all have a purpose in life, but how do we figure that out? John the Baptist knew his from the beginning but how do we decide what we should do with our life? My sermon attempted to start the discussion of that.
