Jesus Loves You…..This I Know.
This morning I started reading “Jesus Love You…..This I know.” All I can say so far is wow!
Jesus loves the broken, forgotten, hurting, gluttons, and the skeptics. Jesus didn’t just love them in word but in action. He healed a person first. He would give them new eyes then tell them to see the truth. He would give the hungry bread and tell them about the bread of life.
Jesus was always doing things that the religious establishment said he shouldn’t be doing. Eating with sinners, healing on the wrong day, hanging out with the wrong people and telling those people they were better than the establishment.
Those with the power Jesus didn’t like because they had turned religion into a profit-making company. They used their power to play on the fears of those wondering what came in the after life. Jesus told those who were hurting and broken that he has seen the afterlife and he knows who is good enough and it isn’t those in power.
The establishment had to get rid of Jesus, so they killed him. They off’d him. Made him a dead man and the entire time Jesus didn’t hate them. He just forgave them.
Jesus didn’t stay dead he was down for three days but he came back to prove that the establishment and sin didn’t have the last word.
This Jesus guy has the first word, last word, and every word in between because he is THE WORD.
Since Jesus did all that, maybe we should too? Maybe before we can share about the living water we need to give a glass of water? Or before we tell someone about their house in heaven we fix the boards on their house on earth? What if instead of telling people, that God overcame sin and death and addiction, we help them overcome their addiction?
I’m only about a third of the way through the book and boy has it got me thinking. Especially after watching last nights episode of Glee. The Christian family kicks out their pregnant daughter but the non-Christian family accepts her, which one acted more like Jesus?
What if when someone in our congregation, or our family, or our friends did something really stupid and instead of kicking them out we treated them like Jesus treated those he loved, he gave them what they needed then told them about what they REALLY needed?
